I have to admit, I thought I was invincible when I was young and I did not take care of my skin and body like I should have. I wish I could go back and tell teenager Becky to wear sunscreen and wash your face in the morning and evening. We only have one body and it is up to us to take care of it.
For me that means being aware of the products I am using on my body. Not all soaps, lotions, and face products are created equal. With the amount of chemicals and toxins present today, we have to be proactive in what we are using.
Our skin is the largest organ of our body and the first line of defense between our bodies and the outside world, protecting us from bacteria, viruses, pollution and chemical substances that we encounter. Skin regulates body temperature, maintains fluid balance, and controls moisture loss.
We do not leave the doors and windows unlocked in our homes to make it easier for intruders to get in? Why would we weaken our first line of defense against keeping us well? Maybe that is extreme, but it makes sense.
